Beyond the Box- June Paper Pumkin

Monday, June 28, 2021
Hey y'all!!
It's time for another Beyond the Paper Pumpkin box! And did you notice that it's still June and I'm posting this! LOL. I'm surprised too, as it would seem that most things worked in my favor this month. Let me start out by saying if you don't get a monthly box kit this one is a great one to get. It's always card or project focused. Everything comes ready for you to punch out, stamp, and assemble. You get a mini stamp pad called a Stampin' Spot and an exclusive stamp set in every box. This month we got 2 Stampin' Spots!

I have made 5 cards for you today using just the stamp set from the June Paper Pumpkin box. This month's box coordinated with a set in the Annual Catalog (it's actually the set featured on the cover!) called Expressions in Art. This suite has a stamp set, die, matching DSP and an ephemera pack with gold accents. The DSP (pattern paper) is embossed with gold foil. It is STUNNING! (Page 96-97 in the catalog).

This month I decided to use the Expressions in Art DSP with the Paper Pumpkin stamp set since they were designed to work together. I did not add the stamp set (Artistically Inked) or the dies (Artistic dies) on my projects. There will be a process video added at the end of this post, or you can find it on my YouTube channel.

Let's dive into the cards!

Details for today's card

Card 1 uses  Mojo Monday sketch #558 as the starting point. The card base is a standard side folding A2 card using Evening Evergreen cardstock. My first layer is 1/8" bigger than what is listed in the sketch. Other than that little change I pretty much followed the sketch. The flower image is from the Paper Pumpkin kit, stamped in basic Gray ink and then stamped over with the "ink splot" stamp in Pale Papaya. I love that this was a super easy way to color that image. The Hello is from the Biggest Wish set (now a staple and considered to be a "basic" supply in my crafty corner). The sequins are the Artistry in Bloom sequins. I love them with the color combination! I also added a little Wink of Stella over the flower petals.

Card 2 also started from a Mojo Monday sketch (#547) but quickly got derailed. That happens right? I had cut everything to the sketch measurements but when I went to put the card together it just didn't want to be that sketch anymore.  I want to take a closer look at that circle... It's a 2 1/5" circle but it was a bit small for the greeting but changing the circle size looked weird on the card. So I added some DSP strips to take up the extra space. I LOVE how it turned out. Another suggestion when using sketches is to change the shape if it isn't working, make it a die cut or different shape. I wanted to circle shape but needed something to take up the space. This was my solution.

Card 3 is an OWH sketch that I have wanted to use over and over. I've gotten it out and looked at it for so many projects but just never actually used it, until today. The sketch is OWL 103. I love the little heart sprinkled down the side! I don't have a heart punch that small and I really didn't want to dig through dies to see if I had one that would work, so I went with the smooth edged heart from the Heartfelt Punch pack. It's a little big but I LOVE how the is card turned out! I used the new Polished Pink to stamp You are Amazing and then a Basic Black Stampin' Write marker to outline the shapes. Being completely honest, I prefer to outline with an American Crafts Precision Pen but y'all when I moved the crafty corner I misplaced them! UGH! I hate moving but I am loving my new home and the Stampin' Write marker was a great substitute.

Card 4 is an old stand by layout. I seem to use this one a lot and I've seen it in many ways in many sketches. The idea is a strip of paper that runs top to bottom of the card with a large rectangle layered over it. I am really loving how the Evening Evergreen color is acting almost like black in these cards. It's moved from being a color into to being a neutral. The sentiment on this card is stamped onto one of the DSP scraps in that Evening Evergreen and then I used the Treasured Tags Pick a Punch to round the end. I layered the Polished Pink ribbon over the edge. I really love how this card shows off that DSP and it could be used with just about any paper out there! (I have a couple of videos planned using pattern paper that I will have to put this to the test!).

And card 5 is a Saturday Sketch #665 card. I wanted to challenge myself to use a sketch that I would define as minimalist. And this one fits that description! I love how it allowed me to show off more of the DSP.  I love this floral paper in Pale Papaya with all the gold accents! It is stunning and perfect to showcase on a card.  The focal image in the lower left corner of the card is the floral image from the Paper Pumpkin kit stamped in Tuxedo Black ink and then colored with Stampin' Blends.

Here are the sketches that I used for todays cards:

Sunday Share-day!

Sunday, June 27, 2021
Good Sunday Morning!!
Y'all it's a great day to share on a Crafty Collaboration blog hop. If are arn't sure who or what Crafty Collaborations is, well we are a group of Stampin' Up! demonstrators from across the world who LOVE to share craft things. Our Share it Sunday hop is just that... us sharing beautiful things with you! Make sure you hop on through the whole hop to see all the things!

Today I am sharing with you a card that was a bit tortured in creating but the end card is probably one of my favorites ever! It's another card with the super fun Party Puffin set!

Can you see why I love it???? Black and white and pink!! So this started out as a project for a theme hop, but I just couldn't get it where I wanted it. LOL so I let the card speak to me and this is where we ended. Since it no longer fit the theme of my other hop, here it is for you! And honestly I love it here better. One of the things I love about this Share it Hop is that you get a collection of ideas from everywhere!

Before we dive into the details about the card, I wanted to share the hop list!

Details for today's card

Ok let's talk this card!  This is a standard A2 Thick Basic White card base (side fold 4.25"x5.5"). I added a layer of Flirty Flamingo 1/8" smaller. This lets a peak of white sneak out and pops our black and white off that pink! Now the DSP (pattern paper) is part of the Hostess Paper pack called Pattern Party. If you haven't been a host yet, you need to! This paper is life! One side is black and white the other is packed with color. There really isn't a single style to this paper it's a little all over the place. I think that it why I love it so much! The starting size for the DSP layer is 4"x5.25". I split the paper so that it would have a diagonal running through it. The Flirty Flamingo DSP paper is 1" wide and matted 1/8" larger in Flirty Flamingo cardstock. I used a little piece from the diagonal in that upper left corner to add some color there too. Now those Puffins are super easy to stamp and color. I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink and then some yellow and orange Stampin' Blends to color them. But you could use markers or colored pencils too. Below is a list of what I used.

Thank you for hopping with us today! Make sure you keep going to see all the projects from Crafty Collaboration!

Beyond the Box- May Paper Pumpkin

Wednesday, June 16, 2021
Hey Y'all!!
I can not wait for you to see what I did with May's Paper Pumpkin box. First let me say that I was not excited about the baseball theme from this kit and I almost didn't get it. But I'm really glad that I did because I LOVE what I did with my Beyond the Box ideas.

If you are new to the blog- welcome! I'm glad you're here and let me tell you what my version of Beyond the Box is and why I blog this each month. Beyond the Box is my version of a so you made the kit and all the parts and pieces are now on beautiful cards or projects. And you are left with a sad little stamp set without a purpose. Picture it... that stamp set was so happy to be used with his paper friends but now they are gone bringing a smile to someone's face and the stamp set is well, sad.

Being a somewhat organized person, I will dutifully file away my stamp sets once the kit was complete. I started feeling like I wasn't getting my money's worth out of those stamp sets. But as a demonstrator I get caught in this place of do I show you amazing ideas with stamps you can't buy anymore? Or do I keep showing you the things you can get right now? I want each one of you reading this blog to get more value than just the monthly kit or a stamp set. I really, as cheesy as it sounds, want to inspire you to get off your tuskus and make something! So Beyond the Box was born.

This month I am sharing 5 cards I made using Stampin' Up! products and the stamp set from the May 2021 Paper Pumpkin kit. You can see the process video below for how to make the cards in the kit as well as 3 of my BTB (beyond the box) cards. Now let's take a look at what I made!

This was the first card I made. I used the new 6x6" paper pads in the color families.  My colors are Night of Navy, Gray Granite, and Real Red. I also used some the little stars from the Shaker Shapes embellishments.  I love a red, white, and blue card!

I love everything about this card!! It uses the same papers as the card above. This time I added some sequins from the Sequins for Everything set. Those circles are from one single die in the Picture This die set.

Now we are going to switch color schemes and move away from reds and navys. I am going to be using Coastal Cabana, Gray Granite, Cinnamon Cider, and Basic White in some form or fashion. I used a circle stencil to make my background and Coastal Cabana ink. Then I layered Coastal Cabana on top that I stamped with the matching ink. That circle paper is from the Hostess paper pack! It's giving me life right now!

I know I shouldn't play favorites but y'all!! I think this is my favorite card of the bunch. I love that it's not really baseball colors and if you don't look too closely those bats could be stripes... LOL ok not really. But this card is one that I really love. The Gray Granite layer was stenciled with that "cracked glass" looking stencil in the new annual catalog. The papers are both from the Hostess Paper Pack. Seriously! This one... it takes my breath!

I had such high hopes for this card. I still like the card but it's not what I imagined. It's just not. I tried every pink I have and it just didn't work to put the greeting on. I tried it on white stamped in every pink, nope. I tried it on Gray Granite. I really think that it needed to be on Crumb Cake but after trying everything else, I went with the Coastal Cabana. I decided to share it as a lesson in sometimes things just don't work out like you thought. But it's still a pretty card. The texture on the Crumb Cake is the new Bark folder. I thought it might look like wood and the pattern papers are from that same pack of Hostess Pattern Paper! Y'all I was right, right? You need that pack in your life! I finished this card with sequins from the Artistry in Bloom sequins.

I hope that you will join me in July when I share June Paper Pumpkin's Beyond the Box.
