The Spot Creative Challenge #130- Sketch Challenge

Tuesday, September 29, 2020

Hey Y'all! Today we are doing a sketch. I really like this sketch because of how many different shapes you could use to make this sketch. It really is a versatile sketch. Today I decided to use one of the shapes from the Unicorn set to make a Christmas card.

My card uses the Hostess set from the August to Decemeber Mini Catalog. I love this set. It's all stockings and wonderful greetings. I created a color pallet of greens and reds (traditional Christmas in my opinion).

Since I started with a Mossy Meadow card base, I layered Whisper White on the inside for writing a message.

Details for today's card

The inside of the car uses probably my favorite greeting from the set. This greeting would also work with Halloween cards. It says: May the season be filled with magic. The focal point of the card is the stocking and vellum heart. I used Crumb Cake, Mossy Meadow, and Cherry Cobbler on the stocking. The card is layers of Mossy Meadow, Pear Pizzaz, Cherry Cobbler and vellum. I added some of the Cherry Cobbler Wonderful Gems as my finishing touch.

The Spot Creative Challenge #128.... it's a fall color challenge!!!

Tuesday, September 15, 2020
Hey y'all!
Can I be honest? Of course it's my blog right... lol. When I first saw today's color challenge, I wasn't loving it. I loved parts of it... but dang that Bumble Bee! It's never been "my color". It hangs out there reminding me of every bad 1970's photo I'm in. Given I was a very small child with little to no say in my clothes. But still; Bumble Bee taunts me.
But when I layed out the colors for this challenge on my table, well Bumble Bee sat down and began to behave. I really like mixing Gold into this color scheme, although bronze would be pretty too. The gold does something to Bumble Bee. It calms it. Here is my project.

The start of Fall in the south is still hot and humid and all about getting ready for 2 things- football, and deer season. I wanted to mix fall with deer season and make treats for the guys at deer camp. You know a little something to keep them going in all that heat.

I used one of our new flat 3x3 clear boxes and filled it with mini chocolate bars. I made a square background to ground my design. A simple belly band of gold foil Ornate Garden DSP colored with Bumble Bee keeps the box closed. I layered 2 circles, one gold and one the daisy print from Ornate Garden DSP. And added a Crumb Cake deer and message flag.

I added some details with blends. The dies for this stamp set make piecing the animals together so easy. I am so glad I went back and got this set!! I hope that you are inspired to create something with this color scheme. Need more inspiration? Head over to the Spot and check out the other amazing creations!

New at SU! Changing seasons....

Wednesday, September 9, 2020
Hey y'all!
I love when the weather turns cooler and jeans are a thing. I'm not a big fan of being hot... now being at the beach and laying by the ocean is a totally different thing! Just sayin'. I also do not like driving in ice or snowy weather either. But when the weather turns cool, I get really excited!

Today's card uses a new set out of the Holiday Catalog called Menagerie Mix Up. I loved these little critters in the catalog but it was a set that I put off getting. Honestly, I was worried about all the little pieces and having to glue them together. But you know what? It's not that hard!! Stampin' Up! added some "tab" like pieces to the dies that make piecing the animals together a piece of cake!

For this card I wanted to make squirrels... but that is one of the animals that was not envisioned with this set so there is no bushy tail. That didn't stop me from making this set of gray squirrels!

I hope you liked this cool breezy feeling card. Don't forget to hop to the next blog.

The Spot Creative Challenge #127- fun folds... or not!

Tuesday, September 8, 2020
Hey Y'all!! Have you seen the weather report??? Colder air is headed across the United States. That says it's fall y'all! This week I am sharing several different takes on the fall. Today I am sharing my challenge card for The Spot!

Ok so the words "fun fold" and "Karen Day" are never ever in the same sentence. Like ever! My cards tend to be things that could be made fairly quickly and have lots of layers. It's who I am as a card maker. So this week a fun fold card really was a challenge for me. Now that said, you might not really consider this card a fun fold. I'm ok with that... the folks over at The Spot really created some BEAUTIFUL and creative fun folds.

Here is my "not so fun" folded card. LOL....

I started with an idea that I have used before where the card front is not solid cardstock. It is more of a "hinge" that I used with a piece of DSP. My thought was to use the hinge to attach a die cut to the front of the card. What is hard to see is that there is a Whisper White rectangle on the inside that is slightly larger than the Sahara Sand die cut piece. I used the largest of the stitched rectangles to die cut the cover. Then I layered a piece of Plaid Tidings DSP that I cut with the Stitched So Sweetly dies. I used the new Banner Punch to create the sentiment. And the stamps I used are Jar of Flowers, Four Seasons Floral, and Lovely You. I colored the flower and jar with Blends.

Now if you are ready to see some really fun folds... head over to The Spot! blog and check out what the team made. (Click on the image below to head to The Spot)

Positive Inkers- beyond the holiday catalog

Tuesday, September 1, 2020

Hey Y’all!
Today I’m sharing a card that takes a new set, Coming Home, from the August to January Mini Catalog and pushes it out of the holiday realm. I have a new neighbor and I wanted to welcome them to the neighborhood so I pulled out the Coming Home stamp set and came up with this card.

Details for today's card

This card uses some beautiful pastel colors with bolder colors for the house in the heart. I used Stampin' Blends to color the house.  I punched out a heart from Blushing Bride cardstock and placed the die cut house on top. What I love about this card is that it's simple but packs a lot of punch!

Don't stop here... keep hopping with the Positive Inkers!

The Spot Creative Challenge #126

Hey y'all! This week the super creative team over at The Spot are creating things that are not cards.

This week I decided to make a cute treat for a friend. We needed to celebrate something in her life (it's a little personal to share here since it's not my story but trust me- it was worthy of celebrating). I put some of the fantastic Pink/ red only starburst candies into one of our cello bags and made a cute topper for the bag. I'm telling you this set of dies is going to be missed and you will be sorry you missed them.

Details for today's card

I used 2 sets of dies and 1 stamp set on this adorable treat bag! The Zany Zebras in any shade of bright is amazing... think Grannie Apple Green, or Gorgeous Grape, or go with the pink version like I did. Mellon Mambo really makes this Zebra look like she is ready to celebrate. I die cut a small star from the Stitched Stars Dies and used the middle two dies from the Celebration Labels Dies. I used the pink plaid paper from Plaid Tidings 6x6" DSP stack. Y'all it is so pretty!!! Blushing Bride cardstock and Whisper White cardstock round out my supply list. I did use the Stampin' Blends to color my zebra but honestly, you could use the Stampin' Write Markers or watercolor pencils.

I will tell you that when I dropped this off at my friends house, she was all smiles. Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest impression. Mailing a card to someone you know needs encouragement, or dropping off a little treat. It doesn't seem like much, but in the current age of physical distancing we need to find other ways to stay connected. I challenge you to create something other than a card that you can use to make someone smile!

Don't forget to link up with us over at The Spot.
