Count Down to Sale-a-bration card #2 .... Power of Hope Bundle

Tuesday, December 31, 2019

Today I am sharing a card featuring one of the bundles that you can get free with a purchase during Sale-a-Bration. When I first saw this stamp set, it didn't really grab my attention. But the 3D embossing folder that is part of the bundle screamed my name! It's called Stone but I think it also looks like cracked glass. The colors for this card were inspired by the Global Design Projects current color challenge.

This color combination really said holidays to me, and honestly I was over the holidays when I saw it. However, the more I thought about these colors together the more I realized that they were perfect for the Power of Hope set. I knew I wanted to make "panels" on the front of the card.

Details for today's card

This is a top folding card. I layered the Shaded Spruce behind the Cherry Cobbler piece that I had embossed with that amazing Stone 3D embossing folder.  To try and keep from looking to Holiday, I place the Early Espresso on top. One theme that I notice in Asian art is the use of panels and 3 images together. So decided to have the panels on this card "morph" from the first to the last. I started with Early Espresso stamped at full ink then stamped again without re-inking (a second generation image). The last panel is my favorite. I stamped the image in Versamark ink and embossed with Whisper White embossing powder. Then I used Cherry Cobbler ink to watercolor the dress and umbrella. The hair is water colored with Early Espresso. I added Seaside Spray around the outer edge to define the Whisper White embossed image. The greeting is stamped in Shaded Spruce and layered on the a strip of Cherry Cobbler cardstock. I added some Rhinestone Basic Jewels for pizzaz.

Hello Fabulous... Count down to sale-a-bration Card #1

Saturday, December 28, 2019
Sale-a-bration is one of my most favorite times in the Stampin' Up! year. This is when every dollar you spend earns you free product. There are so many great stamp sets coming you are going to want them all. Sale-a-bration also means that there is a new catalog! In years past this mid year release was called the Occasions Catalog but it is getting a make over and a new name. The Mini Catalog will run from January to June and it's packed with some sets that I could not wait to get in the pre order.

I love the swish stamp that give the bottle of perfume a watercolored look.  I really feel like Stampin' Up! has stepped up their message stamps. I love the script " hello" with the typed "fabulous".  And those dies! Do you have these Stitched Nested Label dies? I swear they are my favorite! There is a close contender in the Mini Catalog.

Details for today's card

The base for this card is Purple Posey. I layered a Soft Suede piece that measures 5 1/4 by 4". Then I added two floral strips that are about an inch and a half wide. I then stamped on one of the Stitched Nested Dies and free handed a mat out of Purple Posey. I used some of the Black Glittered Organdy ribbon and Stampin' Dimentionals to add the Stitched Nested shape to the card.

The inspiration for this card came from my team's sketch challenge. I really love this sketch. So many possibilities!

Big things coming in 2020

Thursday, December 26, 2019
I am so excited about the new year and the start of something new here on the A Little Kinder blog. I am starting my very own color challenge... more to challenge me to create beautiful things but also for you. I am hopeful that the color combinations that I challenge you with will inspire beautiful projects.

This challenge will post twice a month, on the 1st and the 15th. You will have until 11:59pm central time on the 14th and 30th to link your creations in the InLinkz gallery. The rules are simple... get inspired! Use only the colors in the challenge and what I am calling "basics". The basics include whisper white, very vanilla, gold, silver, and black. You can create anything! Cards, tags, gift boxes or bags, 3D projects, home decor... the sky's the limit. You will only be able to link 1 project though.

The Day family (me, the hubs, the son, and the daughter) will pick a favorite each. The favorites will get featured in a second post. Fun right? I also am planning to have a blog button at some point down the road.

As we close out the old year and bring in the new I hope that you will find time to join my color challenge!

Sneak Peak! Healing Hugs card

Monday, December 23, 2019
Hey Y'all!
Have you heard? There is a new Mini Catalog that will launch on January 3, 2020. As a demonstrator (or happy shopper), you can order from this catalog right now! So exciting!

I have to tell ya, this Mini Catalog is fantastic! If you have ordered from me in the past, you will get one of these in the mail. I fell hard for some of the new sets. And others had to grow on me. TOday's card is a sneak peak of one of the suites that had to grow on me. I fell hard for the 3D embossing folder in the Tropical Oasis suite. It's called Coastal Weave and it's amazing!

Here is the card:

Do you see the Coastal Weave embossed paper??? OH my law!!! It is amazing. I keep running my fingers over it. It takes me back to every woven beach bag or beach hat I have ever owned! And being a kid with family in Florida, that's a lot of hats and bags.

This Hibiscus Flower is so beautiful. The stamp set itself beautiful. The hand drawn images are beautiful. The script front mixed with a classic typewriter type font is amazing. (this sentiment is not from this set- it's another amazing set from the Mini Catalog called So Sentimental).

Details for today's card

This card just breathes peace to me. The neutral pallet with the pop of color in the flower are chasing away any blues that the cold winter days are bringing. I started with a basic top fold card from Sahara Sand. I then used a piece of Soft Suede cardstock in the Costal Weave 3D embossing folder. (Swoon!) I added the two rectangles cut from the Tropical Oasis DSP (designer series paper) and finally layered a whisper white rectangle cut from the Stitched Rectangle Dies.  The hibiscus flower was stamped and colored on whisper white paper and then fussy cut. There is a die set, I just didn't use it. The Hibiscus flower is colored with Blends and then I added a little Wink of Stella to make it sparkle. Y'all I'm loving this card. My family is a meh... and I'm all swoon.

GDP #220 It's a C.A.S.E

Sunday, December 22, 2019

This card is another one inspired by the team over at Global Design Project. I like being pushed creatively and their challenges do that. Some weeks I see the challenge and know right away what I want to do. Its as if my mind creates the card or project and I just execute it. Some weeks I have to think about what I am wanting to make. Maybe a stamp set jumps in my mind but the layout does not. Those are fun cards! And then there are CASE challenges. Gotta be honest, they are not my favorite. While CASE means copy and selectively edit, I still don't get the same level of creative surge as I do with other types of challenges.
This is a beautiful card by Shawn De Oliveria. I've been looking at it over and over since the challenge was posted. I keep being drawn to the bottom part of the card. The part with the costal cabana and gold paper. I think that is what I am going to focus my card on.
Here is my card:
I'm really loving the pinks and purples with that touch of Soft Suede. Oh let's talk for a second about this DSP and stamp set!!! These are avalible on January 3 in my online store. They are part of the new Mini Catalog. This was not a suite that grabbed my attention. I mean I thought it was beautiful, but it didn't grab me. BUT! I could not be more happy that I have it. I got the suite because of the dies. One makes the cutest little purse!! I'll share a couple of projects I did with the purse a little closer to January 3, 2020. Since I had to have the dies, I had to get the paper and stamps.

Details for today's card

This is a standard card size for me 4.25x 5.5. About 90% of my cards are a side fold, this one is too. The soft suede DSP is from the Neutrals paper pack. I cut a 1/2" strip and the flower is from the new Best Dresses DSP pack. It's 2 inches. Both of these are layered onto a whisper white rectangle that measures 3.75 x 5". I used the back side of the large floral to make the horizontal piece. It's a 2" piece that I tore on one end. The Gorgeous Grape square was cut using the stitched shapes dies. I used the White embossing powder on the sentiment. And the perfume bottle was stamped and die cut. The color swish in the middle us Purple Posy. I have the stamp pad but due to the color shifting Stampin' Up has discontinued it. IF you don't have a stamp pad use the Stampin Write marker.

Something old, Something new... Happy Birthday Owl card

Tuesday, December 10, 2019
Hey Y'all!
I promised to share the other cards I made for #GDP218 sketch challenge. This is one of them. This perky card uses some of last years Occasions paper from the Sweet Treats suit and the adorable Check You Out stamp set from the new Annual Catalog. I love the "wood block" look of this set. Something very classic about it. I used the stripped paper for my color inspiration. I love Pool Party as a base for anything bring and cheery!

Details for today's card

Pool party sets the stage for Granny Apple Green, Gorgeous Grape, and Bermuda Bay. This is a standard 4.25 x 5.5" card with a side fold. The Whisper White panel on the the front was die cut with the Rectangle Stitched dies, then layered onto Gorgeous Grape cardstock. I used the birthday hat from the Broadway Birthday stamp set. To finish off this card I used a glitter epoxy dot at the center of the hat. Just for a little piazza!

Decisions Decisions....#GDP218

Saturday, December 7, 2019
Hey Y'all!
I fell hard for this Global Design Project challenge sketch. There are SO very many ways to use it. Like straight up, piece for piece. Or small tweaks. Or the possibilities are endless. So I ended up with 3 different cards to pick from, I'll share the other 2 cards later this week. The problem is that I only need 1 card for the challenge. LOL. Let's look at the sketch:
This has so many possibilities. Merge the two squares into one. Use a large image instead of squares. Change the squares to hearts or stars or circles. See TOTAL inspiration from just the sketch.  So here is the first card that I made from the sketch. I used the We'll Walrus Be Friends stamp set. I love these walruses so much!!!

Here is a close up. Those faces!!! Man they get me every time.

Details for today's card

I selected a color palette that felt "winter ocean". Night of Navy paired with Smoky Slate and Seaside Spray. The DSP (Designer Series Paper) is from the last catalog. I also used the High Tide 3D Embossing folder. The walruses are stamped in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink and colored with Gray Granite and Seaside Spray Blends. I added a touch of Wink of Stella to the water for some shine. This is a standard 4.75 x 5.5" card.

Up for a Challenge? Ouch Card

Wednesday, December 4, 2019
Hey Y'all! I know I can't be the only one to have experienced looking for my cell phone while using it as a flashlight, right? Or looking for your glasses that are on the top of your head? Well today's card kind of falls into that same category. I LOVE the Global Design Challenges. I really love how a challenge can spark my creativity or push me to use a stamp set that is collecting dust. But with the holidays and family being in town and about 52 other reasons, I didn't get this card photographed or up on the blog until now.

Details for today's card

This card is a mix of old and new. I have problem using DSP (designer series paper). I'll admit it's hard knowing that it only sticks around for the life of one catalog. What if, 2 years from now, I NEEED that crumb cake gingham and whisper white paper that was only in the 2019-2019 catalog? I mean really, it's not like Stampin' Up! doesn't give me new and great papers each and EVERY new catalog that I fall head over heals for. ::eye roll to a palm forehead person::

Today's card uses a mix of two retired papers, card stock, and a new this Annual Catalog stamp set. I used the #GDP217 for my color combination.

Thursday, June 27, 2019
This is a take on my card from the Global Design Project.

Here is a detail photo of those ADORABLE faces!! I can see me making lots of cards with this set.

Details for today's card

I enlarged the circles and moved them from going across the card. I love the way this card looks. I mean sometimes there are cards that I love, and some that I just like. This one I love!!

Up for a Challenge? I am! #GDP194

Sunday, June 23, 2019
Today I am taking part in the Global Design Challenge. When I saw this sketch I knew exactly what I wanted to do. Here is the sketch from Global Design Challenges web page.
There is something about those hearts that screamed at me to make them circles. So here is what I came up with!

Something about these faces said "use me in a sequence". I LOVE this We'll Walrus Be Friends stamp set! I love coloring the walrus image. I love the punny sayings. It's defiantly a top 10 stamp set for me! Here is a close up of the walruses.

Get Ink'd Just Because Elephant card

Friday, June 21, 2019
Guess who's back... back again...

Today I have another beautiful elephant card featuring something old and something new. The background DSP (paper) is from the occasions catalog. I love the sweet little hearts so much that I didn't want to use it. LOL! So part of the love it chop it movement takes away the hoarding by getting you to cut your paper as soon as you get it. I cut mine into 4 x 5 1/4 rectangles. I realized when I cut it up that I have 6 or 7 inches worth of card layers. I won't mention how many packs of DSP that was!! Oh my stars and cards...

So did I cut up ALL my new paper? No, nope, couldn't do it. I did take 1 sheet of each paper and cut that. I make lots of treat type 3D projects so I wanted to keep one page full. But I am hoping that since I have cut up some of the new papers that I will use them. So on to today's card. Here it is:

Details for today's card

  • Side folding standard card in Thick Whisper White.
  • All My Love Designer Series paper cut 4x 5 1/4
  • Basic Gray and Whisper White cardstock.
  • Seaside Spray cardstock for the "Just Because" tag.
  • Whisper White bakers twine

Something old and something new

Wednesday, June 19, 2019
Hi, my name is Karen and I am a recovering paper hoarder. Yes it's true. I will buy 3 packs of DSP and not use a single sheet!! Tell me I'm not alone. Each summer we get a beautiful new catalog FULL of amazing things that I fall head over heals in love with. This year's catalog is no different. But wait... what about all the things I HAD to have last year????

Oh y'all they are still in the packs. Well not any more, but they were until yesterday. I decided that I can't have that much paper in packs. I needed to use it so I jumped on the #loveitchop it train and cut up my paper! All the cards I am sharing this week (and most likely all of next week too) will feature something old (DSP- Designer Series Paper) and something new (stamps and dies!).

Today's card features last years 6x6 color family DSP. I used Blends to color the adorable elephant image. Below is a close up of the "side tag" and the sequins on vellum.

Details for today's card

  • This is a top folding standard card in thick whisper white.
  • The stripe paper was cut to 3 1/4 inches wide. I then tore one of the long edges.
  • The dot paper is 3 x 4 inch rectangle.
  • I used the stitched shapes to make the circle and a scrap of Whisper White for the sentiment.

Hi all!
A quick break in the card/ project action ok? I wanted to share a little bit about this school year and how it's going and about us, post high school graduation.

So in a few days our oldest will come home from college for her fist college spring break. Honestly, I'm a little scared about this. The Day party of 3 crew has fallen into a good routine. We miss being a party of 4 very much, but we have a new normal. I wonder what this spring break will be like with no trip planned and being Day part of 4 again.

I am currently loving so many things like the slightly warmer weather. And the fact we haven't had any snow. (eye roll- I would kill for some snow and I bet my northern friends would happily send it to me.) My day job as a pre k 3 year old teacher is starting to feel normal too. After all those years in K, the move down hasn't been as easy as I thought it would be. BUT I am starting to feel good in my roll.
This is why I love my job!! This sweet baby just started school with us. She had always been with family as her care takers and now she is in my classroom. One thing I know for sure is that when children don't feel 100% safe they will not sleep. I work hard to make a safe environment for my kiddos. This picture I took on day 3 for her. She is sound asleep here. I can tell that we are starting to believe that we are safe because yesterday she wouldn't fall asleep in my arms. I bet that tomorrow or next week she will be sound asleep on her cot because she believes she is safe 100%!

We had a PD (professional development) earlier this month on Conscience Discipline. I am very interested in, and have started doing some of the things that we were shown. I hope they offer more training on this.

And finally a note on crafting.... I am loving being the creative coach to so many people!! I have classes at my house monthly that you can join, and I do teach private classes away from my home as well. I have lots of things planned that I will be implementing while off contract this summer. I can't wait to share them with you!!!

Get Ink'd Card 3 with Sweetest Things set

Monday, February 18, 2019

Y'all I love this set so much!! The bright cheery colors, the happy look of the completed cards. It just makes me want to create with it! Today I made a card with very little stamping. The candy jars are die cut from the pattern paper!!! Here is a close up of the die cut jars:
Did you know that Stampin' Up! routinely makes a paper out of the DSP (pattern paper) pack that can be die cut from the coordinating sets dies? So awesome! Makes crafting super easy.

Details for today's card

This card is a top fold standard size (4 1/4x 5 1/2) card made from Granny Apple Green Cardstock. I used the Subtle embossing folder to add texture to Whisper White rectangle. I love how it adds texture to the card but doesn't scream at you.
