Seeing Circles, a The Spot Creative Challenge card

Tuesday, November 24, 2020

Hey Y'all!! Happy Tuesday! I look forward to this day each week because I get to issue a challenge... drop the gauntlet so to speak. This week we are challenging you to use this sketch. Since it is Thanksgiving week in the U.S., I expect you have some extra time laying around and will join us! Here in Arkansas it's also deer hunting season and LOT of men are in the deer woods- hey deer widows, I see you!
My card today is for you ladies. And I LOVE it! Every year my husband runs off to the deer wood. He will stay gone for days on end and return looking a bit like Grizzly Adams. This is usually the time of year where I get to hang with the ladies and have girls weekends. But like much else in 2020, those girl weekends didn't happen. But lots of crafting and face time calls did. Let's dive into this adorable (missing my people) card!

Details for today's card

There are so many things to love in this card (and sketch). I love this sketch as circles. I can see SOOO many cards where that large circle is a stamped image or cut out from DSP. Or what if we switch it up and made the circles stars, or hearts! Oh y'all!!! Talk about something you need in your tool box. This is the color scheme for the card:

I started with Petal Pink as my card base. I used the 6x6 color family DSP and the Best Dressed stamp set for this card. I LOVE these colors together. The are soft but have a little kick to them too. Soft Sea Foam is a color that I don't normally reach for, but it was PERFECT for this card. It's what I stamped the perfume bottle with as well as the color I used for the greeting flag.

This sketch caught my eye the second I saw it. It was like visions of sugar plums dancing in my head! If I haven't convinced you that you need to create a project, then hop on over to the team page and see the amazing cards that the team made.

You got this Curvy Celebrations Card

Thursday, November 19, 2020

Hey Y'all!
Today I'm sharing another card using the Curvy Christmas set along with the Ridiculously Awesome set. My card mixes my favorite color, Misty Moonlight, and Sahara Sand.

I have a thing for stars and the boarder image from the Curvy Christmas set just called to me!! I love this sentiment, You Got This, with the stars. Such a fun and encouraging card. I see this being a card that you would send to someone you might want to congratulate, like a graduate or someone who got a promotion. I also see it as a card you might send to someone on your team.  Let's dive into this card...

Details for today's card

I used the Stitched Star dies to create a window for the Misty Moonlight to show through. Then I die cut 2 more stars, one in vellum and one in Silver Foil paper. I stamped the star and line image in Sahara Sand using the Stamparatus. This really is the only way to get even spacing and have this card look SO good! The sequins are from the August to December Mini catalog. I used the Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive to adhere the sequins.

A Merry Hello for The Spot Creative Challenge

Tuesday, November 17, 2020

Hey Y'all!

Today I have a fun Holiday card. Not every card I send is a Christmas card. Sometimes it's just fun to have a hello or thinking of you card that fits the feeling of the season. This card does just that. It's got all kinds of a Christmas feel to it but it's not a "Christmas card".

And y'all this one is going into my CASE file. Do you have a CASE file? For me, having a file on my computer that has cards in it that I want to make again but in a different theme or color way. This beauty will be seen again! Let's dive into the details.

Details for today's card

This is a top folding card made out of Crumb Cake. I then layered Mossy Meadow and a layer of DSP from the Tis' The Season 6"x6" paper pack. On top of that I added a layer of Pear Piazza cardstock that I stamped with the A Merry Hello Host set. I wrapped two ribbons around the card front and knotted them. I love this Mossy Meadow Diagonal Striped ribbon. It's so silky and ties beautifully! And the Real Red Braided Twine is a must have (and will come in a new color in the January to June Mini Catalog) Then I die cut one of the Stitched So Sweetly Dies in Mossy Meadow. I ran that piece through the Wrapped in Textures embossing folder. Then I took Whisper White and Real Red and layered them as my sentiment location. The greeting "A Merry Hello" with the addition of a few holly leaves completes this card.

Here is a close up of that embossing folder on the tag. It's just giving this card life!! I did use dimentionals under the tag to give it a little lift so the ribbon went under a little easier.

OSAT Glad Tidings

Thursday, November 12, 2020

Hey Y'all!
I am hopping today with the team over at One Stamp at a Time. Our theme this month is Glad Tidings We Bring. What to hear a funny? So I plan out my hops in advance. I use a planner and make notes. For this hop, I wrote the title - Glad Tidings but nothing else. As I was jotting down ideas, I had several ideas for Thanksgiving type Glad Tidings. And yes they would total fit the Glad Tidings idea, but what I left out was off of my planning page was that these are Christmas or Holiday Glad Tidings. Y'all this gal was looking to make some super cute items for your Thanksgiving table (no worries, I'm sharing those next week ;) ).

Here are my projects for our hop. I'm focusing on the Classic Christmas 6x6 paper and the Merry Hello Hostess set. My color pallet came from the paper and I added Soft Suede for my outline images.

Details for today's card

Let's start with the card. This is a top fold card out of Sahara Sand cardstock. I cut 3 pieces of the Classic Christmas paper to 1" strips. These are layered on the front of the card.

Let's take a closer look at the focal area.

There are 3 layers of "shapes" making up this focal area. The bottom layer is a vellum piece cut from the Hippo and Friends dies. On top of that I layered Snowflake Splendor ribbon and Sprig punched pieces from vellum and silver foil paper. Then I used another one of the tag/ shapes from Hippo and Friends. I stamped the stockings in Soft Suede ink. The last layer is a circle punched in Whisper White. I stamped the pine branch in Shaded Spruce and the "A Merry Hello" in Tuxedo Black ink. I LOVE how this turned out. A lot is happening in that area and the background needed to be simple, but impactful. This layered strips background is one of my favorites! It's a great way to use up those "extra" pieces that we all have left over from other projects.

This is such a great box to make for treats! It's very easy to make because the lid is really just a "belly band". I copied the basic idea of the box from my card. I placed a Bath and Body Hand sanitizer into my box. The background is stamped in Soft Suede to create a background paper. For this box I mimicked the focal area by cutting out the stockings and only used a circle to anchor them.

This really was a fun set to create. I love how the box could be used as a place card on a dinner table. And the card could be the matching Christmas card that you mail out. Now how about some more inspiration? Hop on using the links below!

Embossed Resist Technique The Spot Challenge

Tuesday, November 10, 2020

Hey Y'all! It's Tuesday and you know what that means right? It's time for this weeks challenge. This week we are working with the embossed resist technique. I'm going to go with that you have NEVER heard of this technique and are dying for me to tell you all about it. LOL So, let's talk about the technique itself and then I'll dive into my card for today.

The bats in this card showcase the technique. I started by stamping the bats with Versamark ink, and then used embossing powder in clear or white on my image. But the magic happens when you come back add ink or water color over the embossed image. The ink or watercolor will not stick to the embossed area. It wipes off and leaves the white of embossing powder! This makes the image POP. I love how learning how to emboss adds so much to a crafter's tool box.

Now that we have talked about the technique, let's jump into the card that I am sharing as inspiration for this weeks challenge.

Details for today's card

This week's card uses the Curvy Christmas Stamp set and 3 colors of inks. I also used a new product that will be making it's debut in the January to June Mini Catalog! The pattern Paper (DSP) is from the Classic Christmas 6x6 paper pack. This pack has 3 colors (Cherry Cobbler, Shaded Spruce, and Sahara Sand) and several universal patterns including stars, trees, stripes, plaids, and polka dots.

I used Whisper White paper. I stamped Versamark ink and white embossing powder. After heating the embossing powder, I used one of the new Stampin' Up Brushes to apply ink to the paper. I wanted an ombre look so I started with Night of Navy and moved to Seaside Spray.

I added in the Shaded Spruce DSP as a pop of color to go with the tree images. The front focal area is really one of my favorite parts of this card. I was a HUGE user of the metallic thread that we used to carry. It was perfect for adding depth and texture to a card. This twine from the Annual catalog Flowers for Every Season suite has a metallic thread around a Whisper White and Misty Moonlight twine. The sentiment is stamped in Misty Moonlight on a tag punched from the Tailored Tag punch. The Misty Moonlight pieces are punched from the Classic Label punch and the Sprig punch.

I hope that you are inspired by my card and this technique. I would LOVE to see what you create. You can see more inspiration and join in the fun over at the Spot (click on the image above to see the challenge).

The Spot Creative Challenge Week Theme Plant Kindness

Tuesday, November 3, 2020
Hey Y'all! Happy November! Can you believe it's already November? This year has felt like 20 all rolled into one. LOL But that is a story for another day.

Today's creative challenge is a theme challenge. These can either be super easy or so dang hard. This one took a minute for me. And then I was at work one day and during nap the idea hit me! So you know I teach pre k 3 year olds during the day, hence the afternoon nap- for them.  We have a kindness tree in our classroom. This is where I write down the kind things that happen in a day. It's part of an educational/ behavioral philosophy called Conscience Discipline. Long story short... I wanted to use the idea of the Kindness tree for this weeks theme. BUT I wasn't sure what stamp sets to use or sentiment stamp or anything.

Details for today's card

In thinking about the idea of the kindness tree, I was drawn to the Birds and Branches set from the annual catalog. I loved this long branch. It reminds me of home decor to be honest. And that led me to the jar stamp from Jar of Flowers stamp set. Once I had those two pieces in place the rest fell together.
I added this sentiment from the Comfort and Hope stamp set. The ribbon is from the August- December Mini Catalog, it's the 3/8" Embroidered Ribbon.  I used Misty Moonlight and Cinnamon Cider as the color scheme for my card. I added in Pear Pizzaz and Petal Pink for the "kindness branch".

I hope that you make sure to hop over to The Spot and see what the others did with this theme, and then create something! I'd love to see your creation too!

Positive Inkers November Blog Hop

Sunday, November 1, 2020

Today I am sharing my card for the Positive Inkers blog hop. We are working with a sketch this month.

When I first saw this sketch, I was drawn to the triangles and the banner. I love how my card turned out. I know you shouldn't pick favorites but I really love this one!

Details for today's card

For my card I used Crumb Cake as a card base. Then I used the Stitched Triangle Dies to die cut two "trees" from the 'Tis The Season Designer Series Paper pack. I added the greeting from one of my FAVORITE sets from the August- December Mini Catalog. It's the A Merry Hello Host set. I added a vellum circle cut from the Painted Labels dies.

Here is a close up. I love the simplicity of this card and how the colors pop. I love the subtle patterns in the patterned paper. I love how quickly this card could be recreated into multiples.

The amazing artists of the Positive Inkers Design Team are at it again. Make sure you hop all the way through!
