Beyond the Box- May Paper Pumpkin

Wednesday, June 16, 2021
Hey Y'all!!
I can not wait for you to see what I did with May's Paper Pumpkin box. First let me say that I was not excited about the baseball theme from this kit and I almost didn't get it. But I'm really glad that I did because I LOVE what I did with my Beyond the Box ideas.

If you are new to the blog- welcome! I'm glad you're here and let me tell you what my version of Beyond the Box is and why I blog this each month. Beyond the Box is my version of a so you made the kit and all the parts and pieces are now on beautiful cards or projects. And you are left with a sad little stamp set without a purpose. Picture it... that stamp set was so happy to be used with his paper friends but now they are gone bringing a smile to someone's face and the stamp set is well, sad.

Being a somewhat organized person, I will dutifully file away my stamp sets once the kit was complete. I started feeling like I wasn't getting my money's worth out of those stamp sets. But as a demonstrator I get caught in this place of do I show you amazing ideas with stamps you can't buy anymore? Or do I keep showing you the things you can get right now? I want each one of you reading this blog to get more value than just the monthly kit or a stamp set. I really, as cheesy as it sounds, want to inspire you to get off your tuskus and make something! So Beyond the Box was born.

This month I am sharing 5 cards I made using Stampin' Up! products and the stamp set from the May 2021 Paper Pumpkin kit. You can see the process video below for how to make the cards in the kit as well as 3 of my BTB (beyond the box) cards. Now let's take a look at what I made!

This was the first card I made. I used the new 6x6" paper pads in the color families.  My colors are Night of Navy, Gray Granite, and Real Red. I also used some the little stars from the Shaker Shapes embellishments.  I love a red, white, and blue card!

I love everything about this card!! It uses the same papers as the card above. This time I added some sequins from the Sequins for Everything set. Those circles are from one single die in the Picture This die set.

Now we are going to switch color schemes and move away from reds and navys. I am going to be using Coastal Cabana, Gray Granite, Cinnamon Cider, and Basic White in some form or fashion. I used a circle stencil to make my background and Coastal Cabana ink. Then I layered Coastal Cabana on top that I stamped with the matching ink. That circle paper is from the Hostess paper pack! It's giving me life right now!

I know I shouldn't play favorites but y'all!! I think this is my favorite card of the bunch. I love that it's not really baseball colors and if you don't look too closely those bats could be stripes... LOL ok not really. But this card is one that I really love. The Gray Granite layer was stenciled with that "cracked glass" looking stencil in the new annual catalog. The papers are both from the Hostess Paper Pack. Seriously! This one... it takes my breath!

I had such high hopes for this card. I still like the card but it's not what I imagined. It's just not. I tried every pink I have and it just didn't work to put the greeting on. I tried it on white stamped in every pink, nope. I tried it on Gray Granite. I really think that it needed to be on Crumb Cake but after trying everything else, I went with the Coastal Cabana. I decided to share it as a lesson in sometimes things just don't work out like you thought. But it's still a pretty card. The texture on the Crumb Cake is the new Bark folder. I thought it might look like wood and the pattern papers are from that same pack of Hostess Pattern Paper! Y'all I was right, right? You need that pack in your life! I finished this card with sequins from the Artistry in Bloom sequins.

I hope that you will join me in July when I share June Paper Pumpkin's Beyond the Box.

Tuesday's with The Spot!

Tuesday, June 15, 2021
Hey Y'all! Happy Tuesday! Can you believe that we are half way through the month of June? On the one hand I feel like it's been a life time since school ended but on the other I'm like what the heck man! Where did 2 weeks go!

This week the challenge being thrown down over at the spot is a color challenge! Y'all these are some of my favorites! One of the things I really liked about this color combination is how the Costal Cabana is a POP of color. It's unexpected and wonderful!

Let's dive into how I made this card.

Details for today's card

This is a standard A2 card. I used the Basic White Thick cardstock as my base. Using 1/8" less increments I added 3 layers to the front of this card. I really prefer 1/8" to a full quarter less on my layers. The pattern paper is from the Expressions in Ink suite.  This paper is really beautiful! One side is gold foiled and all the papers have an alcohol ink look to them. I love the Hello from the Garden Birdhouse stamps set and the "so glad you're here" is from that same set. I finished my card with sequins from the Artistry Blooms sequins in Coastal Cabana.

Now that I've shared my projects I challenge you to make your own! Make sure you link your project over at The Spot. I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Tuesday's with The Spot- Stencils Challenge!

Tuesday, June 8, 2021
Hey y'all!

Happy summer! I hope that the start to your summer is exactly what you need it to be. I made the decision back in March that this year would be my last year in the classroom. The month of May was a blur of packing up my years in the classroom and bringing home the things that I want to keep. So this week is going to be play time with all the new catalog goodies that I haven't been able to play with. And as a bonus, it's supposed to rain into mid week.

This week our challenge is to use Stencils! I love them so much and you can totally make your own. Today I am using the new stencil that has the same style flower as those in the In Symmetry set. Here is my finished card.

I am loving the fun summer feel to this suite! And the colors are just so perfect for summer.  I made my card base from our Vellum cardstock. And the stencil part is so subtle that I'm betting you don't even see it yet! Let's dive in and let me show you the beauty and depth of this card.

Details for today's card

I don't often use vellum for my card bases but I love how it looks. And I love how you can see through the vellum to anything you place inside the card, which is exactly what I did on this card. I cut a piece of Basic White cardstock just 1/8" bigger than the front layers. On this layer I used Pale Papaya ink and the stencil to create a frame around the edges.

This will give me a place to write my message but it also peaks through the card. To pull this element to the front of the card, and give some depth to the scalloped area, I added Pale Papaya flowers to the upper section. I stopped just short of the Night of Navy "hey friends". I then layered the floral elements and bow to the piece.

I really kept this element soft, although it is easier to see in person. I hope that you are beginning to see the versatility of the stencils. Make sure to share your card or project with us over at The Spot Creative Challenge.

Crafty Challenge In Color Blog Hop

Wednesday, May 26, 2021
Hey y'all!!

I'm Karen and I'm so glad that you hopped over to my blog. Today I am sharing a new project with the 2021-2023 In Colors. If you don't know about In Colors, they are 5 colors that stay with us for 2 calendar years and then retire. This year's colors are beautiful!

See, aren't they beautiful?!? I think Pale Papaya is going to be my favorite! At first I wasn't at all sure about these colors and knew I needed to get them in my hands and play with them. Once they were here and I could stamp with the inks and see the ribbons, I have to admit that once again Stampin' Up! has knocked it out of the ball park with these colors.

Squeal... here is my card. Y'all I LOVE Soft Succulent with Fresh Freesia! The background of this card was made with the blending brushes and one of the new stencils.  I love how this one looks like the scales on a mermaid's tale.

Details for today's card

This is a top fold card made from Fresh Freesia. Then I layered Basic White that I used Polished Pink, Soft Succulent, and Fresh Freesia with the stencil. I layered Soft Succulent on top of the Basic White and tied some of the YUMMY new In Color ribbon on the right side. I did stamp the small shell in Soft Succulent on to the layer before adding it to my card. I added a layer of vellum and a Fresh Freesia circle under my mermaid.

I am in LOVE with how this card turned out. The finishing touch for my card is some of the In Color gems in Soft Succulent.

Make sure you check out the other projects in our hop! They are beautiful and inspiring.
