Tuesday with The Spot! Happy Birthday cards

Tuesday, February 16, 2021
Hey y'all!
Welcome to Tuesday with The Spot. Today we are challenging you to make a birthday card. Everyone needs to have a stash of birthday cards.

Y'all I hope that everyone is staying warm because it is seriously cold out! Over the last 24 hours we have gotten 10 inches of snow! (and lot power due to a wreck- thanking God for gas heat and a generator). And it's not over! We are supposed to get about 10 more inches. This snow lover is just giddy.

Birthday's are a big deal in our house. They are the one day that is truly your day. And if I'm being honest you really should celebrate for at least a week. Let's take a look at the card I made for you.

Details for today's card

I am using the Ice Cream corner suite. I chose several of the pattern papers to make my card. I repeated the Crumb Cake layers through out this card. In the upper right corner I used vellum and Basic White cardstock to add interest and balance out the card.

The happy birthday is from one of our Sale-a-bration sets called Approaching Perfection. I love this set and all the absolutely perfect greetings. I used some of the sprinkles around the card and made a twine nest behind my main Popsicle group.

I hope that you are inspired to create some birthday cards for your card stash! Click on the image below to see what all the design team has created this week, and of course share your card with us.

OSAT blog hop- Where the wild things grow!

Thursday, February 11, 2021

Hey Y'all!
It's another Blog hop with the amazing artists at OSAT! This blog hop is one of my favorites to hop because of the people who create on this team. I'm sneaking in at the last minute with a card and gift box. I decided to use the Flowering Cactus Product Medley kit. I am head over heals in love with this kit. It has everything but snip and adhesive.

See... it really does have everything! That top sheet of pattern paper fits the dies perfectly. Most of my projects have been made by die cutting that sheet. Let's take a look at what I have made for today.

I really love how easy it is to create beautiful projects from this product medley. Let's dive into each of these projects.

Details for today's card

First up is the card. This card features three of the pattern paper, some of the cactus die cuts, a stamped greeting, and the twin from the project medley.

I started with a card base in Calypso Coral. I wanted to highlight that color in my cactuses. I used the large Highland Heather flower sheet as a background. The cardstock layer between the pattern paper layers is Mint Maccaron. I die cut the cactus and flowers from the pattern paper sheet and layered them on top of the pattern paper. The greeting is on a 3/4" flag that I tied with twine. The little rhinestones have been colored with Calypso Coral Stampin' Blends.

My gift boxes feature two of the pattern papers with more of those cactus die cuts. This is a pillowbox template that I found through a google search. I used the stylest from my score board and the stamp and pierce mat to create it. The back box is tied with the Calypso Coral twine and embellished with some of the cactus die cuts. The front box is also tied with the Calypso Coral twine but this one has a tag. For the tag, I stamped the cactus in Mint Macaron on Mint Macaron card stock. The greeting is on basic white and stamped in Highland Heather. I added some of the felt flowers as a finishing touch.

Hop on with the team to see how the others tackled the them "Where the Wild Things Grow".

Tuesday with The Spot! Creative challenge- a color challenge

Tuesday, February 2, 2021
Hey y'all!!
It's another edition of Tuesday with the Spot! I gotta know.... have you done one of the creative challenges yet? Man if you haven't this would be a GREAT one to jump in on! It's a color challenge.

I love color challenges the MOST of any kind of challenge there is. And today's card is one of my favorite cards I've made in a while. I'm using the dots from the Paper Blooms DSP pack from the Sale-a-bration catalog as my starting point to make my card.

For real... I am in LOVE with this card! I love everything from the circles to the colors to just everything. Let's dive in to how I made this card.

Details for today's card

I started with a card base of Petal Pink that I folded at the top. To build this card I cut out the circles from the Paper Blooms DSP. I seperated out the Petal Pink, Soft Sea Foam, and Night of Navy circles. On this paper there are 2 sizes of each color.

I cut a piece of Basic White cardstock to just 1/8" smaller than my card base. I used this as my base to build the circles pattern. In playing around I decided that I wanted to use the large Night of Navy circles and the small Petal Pink and Soft Sea Foam. Then it was a matter of moving the circles around until I found a pattern I liked.

I layered a vellum circle die cut under my sentiment. I love how it sets the sentiment apart but also grounds it to the card. Some finishing touches to the card are that I ran the Basic White piece through the embossing folder called Painted Textures. I love how this embossing folder makes the card look like a painted canvas. I added some of the green jewels from the Flowers for Every Season gems.

If you have never participated in one of The Spot creative challenges then do this one! And check out what the other design team members created by clicking on the link below.

Positive Inkers February Blog Hop.... sale a bration

Monday, February 1, 2021
Hey y'all!
Happy February.... can you believe that it's February??? On one hand it feels like it was just yesterday that we had February 2020 and on the other it seems like it was a million life times ago.

As a school teacher in a public school, I measure time based on school events. Usually January and February are high flu illness months, with lots of green snotty noses and coughing. Last year our school even closed for 4 days due to flu absences! This year.... I'm not seeing the green snot (sorry to those with a week stomach- teaching pre k is not for the faint lol). I'm not seeing the cough (ok you can't see it but I'm not hearing it either!). And the kids are defiantly at school every day. No snow or ice here yet either to break up the overcast, cold, never ending days.

But some how February is here. It came. I'm reminded of the Grinch as he sat watching and waiting to see how the who's were going to react to Christmas not arriving. But just like in the movie... it came anyway. So here we are starting February and crawling closer and closer to the one year mark. (Our mark here is March 13. ) When I started to think about my cards/ projects for this month's blog hop I wasn't sure exactly what to do. I mean I could totally rock some Valentine themed cards from the Sale-a-bration brochure. But that defiantly isn't fitting my current mood.

After much thinking and going back and forth, I started with a stamp set- Heal Your Heart. This is a BEAUTIFUL set that I honestly think you need. The greetings really fit the cards that I seem to be sending right now.  I especially love the "I can't promise to always fix your problems, but I can promise you won't ever face them alone." That kind of sums up everything right now.

After deciding on my stamp set, I needed "images" or "pattern paper" to build my card with. I love the Paper Blooms DSP from the Sale-a-Bration brochure.  I wanted to make lots of these cards to send out this week, so I grabbed the Sheet Load of Cards sketch from January 2021 and got to making (there is a process video below of me making a set of these cards).

Here are the 3 designs that I made with the sketch. Now let's dive in and look at each card close up.

Details for today's card

One of my favorite things about using a Sheet Load of Cards sketch is that Alecia (the creator) gives you a cutting guide to follow. I was able to cut out and prep to make 2 sets of this card for a totally of 18 cards in minutes!

I used Night of Navy and Rococo Rose Cardstock along with Basic White on all of the cards. I picked 3 of the patterns from the Paper Blooms DSP (a Rococo Rose flower print, the Pear Pizzaz stripe, and one of the darker Night of Navy background flower papers).

After cutting all the papers according to the guild, I backed all the pattern papers on to their matching Night of Navy mat.  Then I simply mixed and matched to make mini card kits. This made assembling the cards go faster, which I didn't figure out until the second set lol.

On the Night of Navy cardstock flag, I added an embossed image from the Greenery Embossing Folder. I really felt like it needed something, but you have to be careful with all the patterns too. It can get way overwhelming. The subtle nature of embossing is perfect for this situation.

For the Basic White panel, I used the flowers from Pretty Perennials and the greeting from Heal Your Heart stamp sets. The sentiment is stamped in Night of Navy and the flowers are Rococo Rose. My final step was to add some Basic Rhinestones to the cards. I really love these cards and can't wait to mail them out this week. I hope that they are a pick me up to everyone who gets one.

The rest of the Positive Inkers team has created BEAUTIFUL cards to insprire you. Hop on to see what Anne Marie has created for you!
